District 4 Neighborhoods: Grandview North • Grandview South • Carterville • Northpark • Rivergrove • Lakeview North • Lakeview South • Fort Utah
Through the years I have lived and worked in Provo’s central neighborhoods, the east bench and now on the west side. I appreciate and enjoy the character of each of our neighborhoods but I also recognize that each neighborhood faces its own set of challenges:
- On the Westside we’re dealing with amazing infrastructure challenges and the pressures as well as the opportunities for growth.
- Many of our neighborhoods are struggling with zoning compliance, increased crime, and owner-occupancy issues that risk undermining the viability of the neighborhoods themselves.
- Key neighborhoods in this district are recognizing the opportunities and accompanying challenges of redevelopment.
- As the city grows and I-15 expands with the addition of frontage roads, we will have traffic and street issues that will demand solutions.
These issues need our vision and our input as neighbors to assure that the desirability of our neighborhoods is not only maintained but enhanced! If we don’t speak up now, someone else will make these decisions for us!
The power of citizen input - and everybody working together - is what we really need to meet these challenges.
As the Lakeview North Neighborhood Chair and Southwest Area Rep, I've seen firsthand the need for a strong presence on the city council to represent and understand the viewpoints of our neighborhoods! I have seen firsthand the power of that Neighborhood Voice.
As a mother, a small business owner, and a long-time Provo citizen - I have the experience, the ability, and the conviction to speak up.
Provo is a wonderful place to live and I am absolutely committed to being the voice our neighborhoods need! With citizen input, shared vision and a strong voice on the city council we can protect our neighborhoods and shape our futures!
Recently I was presented a questionaire from the Timp Neighborhood. I wanted to include my answers to some of their questions.
How do you see Provo's Downtown neighborhoods? By what process do you see them becoming stronger and why? What is your role as a Council Member in this process?
I see Provo's Downtown neighborhoods as one of our greatest opportunities in the city. They deserve to be stable, vital neighborhoods. Their architectural characteristics are an asset. It is important that we retain and keep owner-occupants in those neighborhoods. And in the coming years as Provo grows, we need to be visionary in the types of transitional development that occurs between the Downtown and these neighborhoods. It's not good enough just to put something there because it's the next latest and greatest thing. The design, quality, and function must be an appropriate fit.
Do you have land holdings in Provo? Do you represent others who have
land holdings in Provo? Where are these properties?
No I do not have any land holdings and do not represent others that do.
How do you see Provo's neighborhoods in general?
Provo's neighborhoods are unique in their character and in their challenges. I strongly support a Neighborhood's right and ability to weigh in substantially on the discussions of what happens. They are, after all, the ones who live most closely with the results. I believe that only with input through vital discussions can we create a better outcome for all involved.
